I haven’t posted here for months due to the death of a close friend. Even though I know that death is an illusion, it is still hard to lose a beloved friend.
Ever since I was very little I preferred the sounds of birds, wind, water etc to the sounds made by human instruments. So it was only ‘natural’ that I should start using these same natural sounds to make music.
Parrot Sound Teacher
One of my greatest sound teachers was a Parrot called Coco. He mimicked many of the sounds around him and the noises that he uttered, taught me to listen in a different way. He opened my ears to the sound of a cup (or any utensil) being put down on a surface, something I had not taken much notice of at all, until I heard him reproduce the sound. It then appeared to my ears to be much more complex and interesting than I had hitherto perceived it to be. Have a listen next time you put a cup on a table and you will perhaps see what I mean.
My most recent natural sound piece, I don’t know that you could call it music, though it is certainly music to my ears. Is called Four Purring Cats – you can listen to it here. Natural Sound/Purring Cats
This is such an uplifting, warming and relaxing sound. I think it could be therapeutic for depressed, stressed people, or for people who have difficulty sleeping (playing in the background). Cats are supreme relaxation masters and the four cats that I recorded for the natural sound piece were very happy indeed. I think that this happiness could perhaps be contagious. Not a bad sort of contagion in my opinion….
As well as Natural Sound/Purring Cats you can listen to my other music here.
